Longbridge
Planning Prospects has played a key role in the long-term regeneration of the former MG Rover Longbridge site, one of the UK’s most significant brownfield redevelopment opportunities, supporting its transformation into a new mixed-use urban destination.
The former MG Rover Longbridge car plant is one of the most high-profile and politically sensitive sites in the country. Extending to over 300 acres and once employing over 6,000 people, it is now one of the largest regeneration sites in the UK, with the potential to deliver transformational change across south west Birmingham and the wider West Midlands.
Planning Prospects has worked alongside St Modwen Developments, the Homes and Communities Agency, Birmingham City Council and Bromsgrove District Council over a number of years to help deliver an Area Action Plan for the site. This framework has guided the comprehensive redevelopment of the area, supporting major new employment uses including a high technology business park, Regional Investment Site, and wider employment floorspace, alongside a new mixed-use town centre, housing, community facilities and leisure development.
The scheme has the potential to create up to 10,000 new jobs, delivering significant economic, social and environmental benefits to the region.
Planning Prospects has also coordinated numerous planning applications across the site, delivering substantial progress over time. This includes a new mixed-use town centre comprising a superstore, shops, restaurants, offices and hotel development, as well as a new Marks & Spencer department store which opened in 2015. In addition, permissions have been secured for around 1,000 homes, community infrastructure, public parks and recreation facilities. Further phases of development continue to be brought forward, with additional homes and jobs planned.
